I saw eleven Ferraris today. Eleven. There must have been a Ferrari club meet or something, but I didn't look into it. There were three Italias (one spyder), a 612 Scaglietti, a 599, a 360, couple F430s, a Testarossa, and (I believe) a 512BB. I was freaking out my whole drive home!
Have a Ferrari 250 GT California SWB, and a 250 Europa Coupe Vignale

Nope. I'm going to college in Charleston, South Carolina this year. I had gotten kind of used to seeing Ferraris back home, but I haven't seen a Ferrari down here. Until today, and I saw eleven. Holy crap.
The down side is that I usually wave to people driving cool/unique/whatever cars, because I appreciate that they're being driven. But I was driving my girlfriend's Lexus RX450h today, so I didn't even dare. I would've been too embarrassed.

That's an insane amount of Ferraris to see in one day, you're lucky! haha
Side note, Charleston is my favorite city I've ever been to. Going at the end of May and I can't wait!

Geez that Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder SWB is gorgeous. Speaking of seeing Ferraris, a good friend just recently bought an 2009 Argento Nurburgring Ferrari 430 Scuderia. Personally, I have never really considered Ferraris in silver but this was truly stunning. Also, it happens to make a beautiful noise, which never hurts. Haha.
While it sounds like you had a pretty amazing day, just image if you had seen one of these three?

My jaw was literally figuratively in my lap. The only other "super car" I've seen down here is an MP4-12c. I literally stopped dead in the middle of the crosswalk to take pictures of it. Ahaha.
But Charleston is awesome. I love it down here, especially now. We just had our first 80 degree day this year, which means beach season! Have you ever been to Butcher and Bee down here? If not, definitely go in May. I would eat there every day if a) I could afford it and b) didn't mind dying of a heart attack at the age of 30. The food is too good to be true.

Wow... That looks great in silver. Who knew?
But I would've died if I had seen any of those today, even though I'm somewhat spoiled when it comes to Ferrari sightings. I worked at an auto body shop last year that, over the course of a few months, had an original 250 GTO, GT Lusso, and GT California, as well as a Ferrari 212 Inter, a 166, every Superamerica Ferrari's ever made (including the ones I'll post below), and some other insane pieces of Ferrari history. The kicker? Most of them belong to the same guy. Oi. I guess if you have the money, why not? Apparently he's such a well known Ferrari collector that Ferrari made the Superamerica 45 specifically for him. His initials are even in the goddamn door handles!

Where did your friend buy that car from?
I sat in an F430 Scud that looked EXACTLY like that at the Newport Beach dealership about 4 weeks ago.
I fell in love.
I felt just like you. I never really liked Ferraris in silver. But that car with those stripes and carbon fiber bits is just delicious.

Wow what a great experience and it sounds like you need to become friends with that guy or, if possible, marry his daughter or granddaughter. Haha.
Oh my. I can't even look at that 400 Superamerica without getting excited.

Haha no I haven't been there before, but I'll definitely put it on a list of things to do!
My family and I always go down to SC for a week in the summer to Edisto Island. It's about 45 minutes from Charleston. My first stop in Charleston is ALWAYS the Charleston Crab House. I sit up on the roof and get a crab sandwich, 2 Coronas, and hang out in the sun. Damn, I can't wait to get down there haha

He bought his from Foreign Cars Italia in North Carolina. He's actually had it for about a month now but I just hadn't seen it until last weekend.
I love Scuds with stripes as well but, interestingly, his is a stripe delete.

He walked around the shop with a bodyguard... Not the most approachable guy until he found out that I was the shop owner's grandson (same grandfather from the Jaguar post). Still not the most friendly looking dude, but he was one of the only clients who tipped and he was super polite. His daughter's pretty cute though, in a borderline-hippie kind of way.

Ah I thought his car was the one in the pic. I'm sure it looks good with the stripe delete too. The carbon fiber mirror and engine compartment bits look so good with the silver!

No worries! I'm glad you posted that pic because it started a fun conversation :)
Your friend's car looks awesome! Is he happy with his purchase?
I love the F430 Scuderia and the 458 Speciale. The Scud I saw recently was the first one I saw in person up close. I liked it more in person than in the pics. You don't get a sense for how special the modifications make it feel until you sit in it.

So am I.
He's thrilled with it. He's put nearly 1,000 miles on it in less than a month and we're planning on going to a track day at COTA soon with it and my GT.
Very cool. I'm actually kind of spoiled because I have cool friends who have access to some great cars. Another friend had a Nero one back when it first came out and his was something like the 3rd one in the state of Texas and one of the first 100 in the US to be delivered so I've seen them before but just never in that color.

That is awesome! So cool to have friends that have awesome cars and do track days with them.
Is your GT a Mustang GT or the GT?
I want a 16M one day. I know it's pointless to have a soft top track car. But the US probably got less than 200 cars. It would be super rare and an awesome canyon carver. Putting that top down and going on runs would be amazing.

Daaaaaaaammmmmmnnnnn
You and your friends have awesome cars!!!
Your color combo is what I would want if I got a GT if I didn't go for a full on racing livery. I'd be a bit worried about one of the more noticeable paint jobs as it would make the cops take even more notice...
In my ideal dream garage one day I would have your car, and a 16M and a Carrera GT. You and your friends have 3 of the best modern mid engine cars ever made. I'm actually more into the V8s and V10s than the special edition V12 cars. I like cars like the Enzo but I wouldn't actually buy one. I'd rather spend that money on multiple V8 and V10 cars. I like that they are a bit smaller and lighter.
That's funny that two of your friends have 16Ms. If 150 of them exist in the US then your friends alone own 1.33% :)

Thanks. I've definitely been blessed.
I'm with you on the V8s and V10s. Lighter and much less expensive to maintain.
That is ironic. However, Jeff sold his 16m last fall and now has a 458, so I guess my friends are less than 1% again. Haha.
Manuél Ferrari
> CAcoalminer
04/11/2014 at 20:12 | 0 |
I didn't even think about the maintenance costs! Three cars that have a combined value of $900K could actually be cheaper to maintain than one car worth $900 even though there is only one car to maintain. Reason: parts are cheaper.
Also the insurance premiums might be lower since any one accident could only total a $300K asset instead of a $900K asset. Your house would need to burn down, get destroyed in an earthquake or all cars would need to be stolen from it for all cars to be destroyed at the same time. And that's less likely than getting in an accident.
Does Jeff ever miss the 16M?

> Manuél Ferrari
04/11/2014 at 20:21 | 1 |
Yeah it all depends on the car.
As far as insurance, I can't really say because their methods of calculating your rates are sometimes screwy especially with high end cars because they absolutely detest insuring them.
I think he does from time to time. The only real thing he misses is the exhaust sound as he prefers it to the 458. However, he did have a Tubi exhaust on it so that helped.

I have read how F430 Scud and 16M owners love their exhaust note a lot. Even the stock exhaust is really loud for those cars.
Do you have the stock setup on the GT?

Yes they do. It's an incredible sound and believe me it's more than loud enough stock especially on the 16M when the roof is down.
On my black one yes, on the blue one no. It has a Cooltech exhaust, 4.0L Whipple Supercharger, bigger wheels and tires, new rotors and calipers, suspension, bumper delete kit, and some other ridiculous stuff.
Some terrible recent picks of my car from when it was getting serviced and cleaned at the dealership:
This is what my exhaust sounds like (not my cars):

I have no idea what my record is, but it was definitely set at a Ferrari meet. I was just shocked because before today I hadn't seen a single Ferrari where I am for college. Then, out of the blue, I see eleven over a 45 minute span driving down the road! It made my day.

So nice!!!!
Congrats on two awesome cars.
Does the dealership treat you like royalty when you come in?
Now I have to have a Ford GT and a Ferrari one day. It must happen.
Have you seen that long multi-year post by the guy (I think in AZ) who has owned a GT for years and has cycled through different Italian exotics? The GT is red and his 458 is red. He used to have a Gallardo and F430.
If you haven't seen it I can dig it up. It's not on Oppo. I think it's in a Ford GT forum

Not really, I take it to a high-end used car dealership up in AR to get it serviced and the owner treats me more like a friend than just a customer. Here's the website:
Yup. I've heard and read about him. His screen name is "mitty" if I remember correctly and his reviews are impeccable.

I just found out yesterday that the acquisition deal I was working on which could have made our value grow a ton in the next few years fell through. So $100M won't happen anytime soon.

Thank you!
Maybe it's better not to have a big payday too early in life. I'm still relatively young and probably not mature enough to handle that much success. Better to get married and have kids before a big payday.
How have you found so much success, if you don't mind me asking?
CAcoalminer
> Manuél Ferrari
04/12/2014 at 01:04 | 1 |
Oh I don't know about that. I think it varies between each person. Some individuals are mature and responsible from a very young age while others may never mature.
As long as you work hard, stay humble, and don't forget how hard you had to work to get where you are at that particular time, I think you'll be successful in life no matter your income or age. Also, remember those that have always been with you not just in the good times but the hard ones as well. In addition, don't plan your life based on how others say you should or what society supposedly expects of you. If you want to be "normal" and be married and having kids by your late 20s and early 30s then that's great. However, if would you rather wait until you're older or not get married at all, that's fine as well. Heck, it's even alright if you're a stay-at-home dad and your wife is the primary breadwinner. I wouldn't judge you and if anyone else does then that's their problem, not yours.
I started my own business and grew it from nothing. Over the years, if I've learned nothing else its that you need to treat your employees right (if nothing else try to walk around at some point during the day and tell them how great of a job they're doing and how happy you are to have them), do business fairly and honestly (I don't care what industry you work in or how many others are cheating and stealing, you stay on the straight and narrow because its a lot easier to lose trust than gain it), and always stay hungry (when you stopping getting excited about coming to work and busting your butt trying to make your company the best that it can be, you should really consider retiring because you aren't doing your company any favors by just showing up).
I know some of this sounds cliche or corny but it hasn't failed me yet and I don't think it will for you either. I hope this helps.
Manuél Ferrari

04/15/2014 at 01:59 | 0 |
That is awesome advice, thank you!
I don't think any of what you said sounds cliche or corny. Actually I think it's the stuff that we should always know that's easy to forget. As responsibilities pile up it's easy to forget to tell people when they're doing well and that you're happy to have them. And when the competition gets brutal it can be tempting to resort to the same tactics you see other companies resorting to in order to protect profit margins. But I've always done things honestly and will continue to do so. I still have this belief that the business will always be able to survive as long as we provide a high quality service and truly care about the clients. Sure some will leave for the lowest cost vendor but I think there will always be enough that stick around to keep us going.
Congrats on starting your business from scratch as well and for gaining success while doing things the right way.
